“Who’s the Goldfish?”
Oil Painting
40 x 60 cm
This artwork delves into the world of goldfish and women, delving into the intricate interplay between looking and the space within a patriarchal framework. Transitioning from crucian carp to human breeding, it becomes an object of entertainment and a private field ornament that can be changed and discarded at any time.
And what of women? They, too, are akin to goldfish, existing with restricted rights and insufficient liberty to venture into the public realm. Content in the seclusion sheltered by the falsehoods of a patriarchal society, they seem unable to break free, perhaps even resistant to the idea.
Hence, my contention unfolds: gazing, blending, and eventually being imprisoned, I become more and more similar to the goldfish, spending my whole life in a tiny and choking fish tank.
